Q: What levels do you teach?
A: I teach beginner - professional. Whether you just picked up a pair of sticks for the first time, or are already a seasoned performer in the club circuit, I can help take your drumming to the next level. I have extensive experience teaching students ranging in ages of 5 - 75. I love teaching students of all levels, and am experienced teaching the various learning styles of students.

Q: What styles do you teach?
A: I teach all modern music styles including: rock, jazz, latin, funk, hip-hop, r&b, classical, Afro-Cuban, and country. It is very important that drummers create a strong foundation within each style.

Q: What can I expect at my first lesson?
A: Depending on experience, the introductory lesson will involve an assesment of the students goals, technique and experience. I love working with new students so please don't be worried if you have never played before. The first lesson is an introduction to me, and how I can help you reach your goals on the drums. Above all, I want lessons to be fun, informative and inspiring.

Q: Do you integrate technology into your lessons?
A: Yes. I believe it is very important for students to become comfortable with the technology used in making music today. In almost every lesson I integrate my Fostex 16-track digital recorder, Boss drum machine, iPOD and always a metronome. Students will work with recordings, both with and without drums. On occassion, students will have the opportunity to hear themselves recorded, and be able to take home a burned CD to review.

Q: How much should the student practice?
A: For me, practicing is all about what you put into it. If you practice for four hours and never really focus, then you haven't accomplished what you set out to do. I teach my studets how to focus, and how to build a comfortable and rewarding practice routine. Confidence is built through experience and practice. The more effective you practice, the more confident you will become. The secret is how to pace yourself, focus and learn to have fun in the practice room.

Q: Do we need to own a drumset in order to take lessons?
A: The answer to this question is no. Though we will work on drumset in lessons, we also spend a considerable amount of time working on technique on the practice pad, and developing control of the hands and sticks. When it is time, and you will know when, the student should look at getting a drumset. I am happy to advise parents and students on their choices of drums and cymbals.
